Bike Week 2008

Dear Bike Week Visitors:

Welcome to Daytona Beach, Florida, the home of the “World’s Largest Motorcycle Event.”

Hosting an event the size of Bike Week is no small task especially when it comes to Public Safety issues. Law Enforcement agencies, area-wide, strive to provide a safe and enjoyable venue for our visitors, business people and residents alike. Life safety issues are a priority and each year we ask for your help and consideration. Traffic related issues, aggressive driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, unsafe speed and violations of right-of-way can be a factor in traffic crashes that result in injuries. Our police officers will be aggressively enforcing traffic laws and ask that you please ride safely.   Loud exhaust systems, not in compliance with Florida Law, have been a problem during the evening and late night hours in residential areas in, and around, the core areas.  Therefore, equipment violations, especially “straight pipes”, will also be enforced.

Special Events are an important part of our local economy and we want everyone, residents and visitors alike, to have a safe and enjoyable Bike Week 2008.

Please ride safely and enjoy your stay in Daytona Beach, “The World’s Most Famous Beach.”

Sincerely,

Police Chief Michael Chitwood
Chief of Police
