GOODWILL TO HOST SIX-COUNTY DONATION DRIVE IN HONOR OF EARTH MONTH

Clothing, Sneakers and Shoes, Small Household Appliances Are Needed Most

WHAT:

The average American family of four produces about 18 pounds of trash every day – or 6,570 pounds a year – resulting in nearly 140 million tons of garbage filling U.S. landfills every year. In honor of Earth Month, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) invites community members to “Choose Secondhand First” by participating in a six-county donation drive on Saturday, April 20.

Donors across Orange, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia, Seminole and Lake counties can drop off unwanted or no longer needed household goods at any of GICF’s 29 retail stores or 16 Donation Xpress locations. Clothes, sneakers and shoes, and small household appliances are always needed and highest in demand.

Donations allow Goodwill to provide low-cost goods to the community while also generating resources and jobs for Central Floridians. Revenue earned through the sales of gently used items finances the organization’s employment placement and job skills training services.

In 2023, GICF diverted nearly 24 million pounds of clothing and household goods from local landfills.
