Funding to Continue Building a Championship Culture Among Student Athletes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2025) – Bethune-Cookman University recently received financial support to continue building state-of-the-art sports facilities for student athletes.

On Feb. 28, USTA Florida visited B-CU to present administrators with a check for $100,000, which will be used to build the university’s first on-campus tennis courts.

“This generous investment from USTA Florida marks a historic moment for our Wildcat Nation,” said Sherry Paramore, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Bethune-Cookman University. “It represents a commitment to fostering a championship culture that provides our student athletes with the resources to compete at the highest level both on and off the tennis court.”

Added George Henry, Head Tennis Professional at Play Tennis Gainesville and USTA Florida AMPLIFY Project member: “We are honored to assist Bethune-Cookman University, and personally it means a lot to me. I originally relocated to Florida to be the Head Coach and Tennis Director at B-CU before COVID. Little did I know that the university would have such an impact on me as a person. I truly took to heart the motto of ‘Enter to Learn. Depart to Serve.’ I am very honored to be a part of the USTA Florida Section in providing support for B-CU and all the Florida HBCUs.”

In October 2023, B-CU administrators celebrated the completion of a new on-campus practice football field, and most recently launched a fundraising campaign with alumni basketball players to pay for improvements to the gymnasium.
